Boston Magazine:
Home Theater
There's more than meets the eye in a home theater with the acoustical quality of this one. Fabric panels that seem decorative are strategically placed for sound control. "They help keep the sound in the room, and they make the sound sound better,” says Christopher Saad, director of design at Audio Video Design, which coordinated installation of the theater as well as whole-house music and lighting systems. The theater"s acoustics, combined with a 96-inch diagonal screen and a high-definition projector, create a movie-theater experience—but one with cushy oversized lounge chairs.
The lighting system that Audio Video Design installed allows control from virtually anywhere in the house; you can turn off a basement light from the master bedroom, or program patterns that illuminate with the push of one button. A vacation mode turns lights on and off based on your usage pattern. Likewise, the whole-house music system allows someone in the master bedroom to simultaneously pump Mozart into the kitchen, Beyoncé into the girl’s room, and Miles Davis into the lounge.
